Howdy Y'all!

Our names are Jason and Spencer – buds since back in the day on an adventure to see the furthest reaches of the globe.

Rucksack Ledger is, well, just that. Its a log of what we boys will be up to abroad including everything from the digital work we’re doing and how to do it in different countries to how to have a good time and experience these places. We’ll be making our way the best we know how and trying to do it all on a budget. We’re excited to share it all with you.

First, I think y’all are in need of a bit of backstory. The two of us are both Southern boys, born and raised in Alabama. We first bonded over sharing the exact same birth date – month, day, and year and from there we became fast buddies over also sharing a love of hiking and exploration. We’ve both been living throughout different areas of the U.S. and doing different jobs and chasing business ventures, but we had a dream to travel farther and to do and see more.

Spencer was actually the initiator of the original idea to start digital nomading. He had already been working on his online businesses (including his Etsy store, Deckled Edges) and was ready to pursue a decreased living cost by going abroad and continuing work on this and other digital ventures. I had the itch to travel and nothing but odd jobs  me to my current location. Knowing my way around the social medias and the odd program or two, I figured I could be of use. I was ready to work hard and we were both read to have a unique, exciting journey.

Spencer and I are living in Seattle at the time of this blog’s inception, and while it’s a captivating and fun place to live, it’s certainly not a cost effective one, much less when starting a small business. That is where the idea to travel globally and work was born and that is (some version) of what digital nomading is all about.

I’m not going to argue that either of us are experts, and I don’t think Spencer will either. We each have our own skills and talents that will hopefully prove useful. Personally though, I think that’s part of the fun. We are just two fellas tryna chase our dreams – and stumbling through them a bit… maybe… likely.

That’s also one of the reasons, though, that I feel obligated to document and share the experience with this blog. We are gonna explore some of this big open world and try to finance our ability to do so. Along the way, this will be our digital “ledger” – a log book of sorts to keep track and keep in touch. I know a lot of you probably feel a bit of wanderlust too. So, maybe we can show you some awesome sights, share funny stories, and help you learn (or just be entertained) through our struggle… if you’re interested.
